Commenting is easy

I have been meaning to post with more of my rants against society lately, but I have actually been working on the book I was supposed to help rewrite last year. June 5th is the magic day; the book goes to the printer that day. Until then my rants will be truncated at best. I have however found commenting on another blog quite satisfying lately. Head over to Not the last word for a lively discussion on legislation we want to see passed(and I'm sure other political topics to come).

Equal rights for all... just not you

I have come to a grand realization… People do not care about their rights, at least not in the abstract. There are certain rights people feel strongly about, and are perfectly happy to let the government intrude on the rest. There is not even consistency in their viewpoints. People will scream about protecting a woman’s right to choose when it comes to abortion, but my right to choose not to wear a seatbelt…not important. This whole country was in great turmoil during prohibition so it was repealed, but people are perfectly happy to make it impossible to drink legally (DUI laws, Public drunk laws… etc). People who clamber for the government to leave them alone are happy to have government tell me what to do. I don’t understand how people in this country can be so short-sighted. The minor rights given up today lead to totalitarianism tomorrow . Bet on it.
